Water Filter

Welcome to class 101 change water filter.

To change water filter safely you first need to turn off the isolation valve before the filter. It will look similar to the valve below and should be directly before the filter.

filter tap
Turn the handle clockwise. Some will be a quarter turn to full off, others like a saddle tap valve (right hand side photo)will require serveral turns until the valve hits its stop.

Now turn on filter tap (this is positioned on bench top) or press fridge water outlet button. No water should come out. If water is still running out, isolation valve is faulty and you will need to turn off toby.

Click here if your isolator wont shut off or you cant find. You will need to turn off your main water shut off valve.

There are 2 type of connection shown below. Click on the bottom photo if this resembles more closley the one you have.

filter compression

The compression fitting (top photo) is the easiest to replace. Simple push comprssion ring where pipeing enters filter. At the same time pull pipe out of filter. The pipe should slide easily out on clamp. Do this to both ends.

Get your new filter and ensure the direction arrow showing water flow is pointing to filter tap.

Push your pipe into the filter (this is usually 10-15mm until you feel the pipe come to a hard stop.

To check pipes are hard home, I usually make a pencil mark on the pipe about 15mm from the end to see how far pipe has slid into socket.

Now tug gently on the pipe to see it is firmly lodged into place.

Turn on isolation tap with filter tap open.

Run for 10 minutes to ensure all the loose particle of carbon have been washed through. The color of the water should be clear now and all is set to go.

Give joints one final inspection and pour your self a long cool glass of water.
