How to change a dux flush washer.
Of all the valves created with simplicity in mind, the dux flush washer replacement takes the cake.
Today I'll show you how to change your dux flush washer in less than 1 minute.
Take the lid off your toilet tank/cistern.Yours may look slightly different than the photo above buth the flush mechanism is the same for all of dux toilets.Turn the water off to cistern (There will be a valve to the side of the cistern) Flush toilet to empty cistern. Reach down and grab the base of the flush assembly.
Twist the assembly anticlocwise about an 1/8 of a turn or until holding lugs line up with release points.Gently lift the flush assembly up while freeing the flush tripper. The flush tripper may be a stainless wire going to a tripper arm or a plastic fork coming down on both sides of the assemblies breather tube.
Turn the valve over to reveal the dux flush washer.Take hold of the washer with a small pair of poly grips/multi grips or pliers and stretch out and over the retainer. If the washer is realy old and perished it may keep breaking off as you pull it off. If this happens, you may have to cut down retaining slot with a knife. Clean all the old pieces of rubber that are stuck to flush mechanism with a nylon scrubbing pad. Now look back into toilet tank and inspect the seat where the new washer will sit. This needs to be clean and smooth. Again use nylon scrubbing pad to clean up valve seat. Time to put on new washer Cover new washer with moist soap (spit will do at a pinch)Stretch over retainer and let washer slide into slot. Ensure the washer sits evenly on assmebly. If it puckers or sits more to one side, you will need to pull the washer around till you get it sitting right. If no success, pull washer off, resoap and try again.
Replace top assemblyFeed tripper wire to tripper arm or attach flushing fork to flush assembly. Line up lug holes of top assembly with flush base. Give assembly 1/8 turn clockwise. Awesome, you're just about done. Turn water back on. Once the cistern is full check to see if cistern is still running. You may need to take a hold of flush assembly breather pipe (This is the main stem that comes up the middle of valve)Push down and twist back and forth a few times to help washer seat in. Now replace the lid of cistern/toilet tank. Congratulations, dux flush washer job, is slam dunked. Grab yourself a newspaper, sit on the throne and let's test this baby.
