How to remove a toilet.

Wondering how to remove a toilet?

I'm tempted to give you a sledge hammer and let you figure it out.

But seriously, an old toilet carefully removed, makes it a lot easier for a new one to be installed.

You'll need

A stanley knife with long blade (razor blade knife)

A small and large pair of polygrips/multigrips.

A junior hack saw (if your toilets really old)

Large screwdriver (probably straight)

Rag

Turn water off to toilet cistern. Flush the toilet and mop remaining water out of cistern with rag.

Start by taking a large screw driver and undoing toilet pan screws. (anticlockwise) Take the time to clean out screw slots, by scraping edge of screwdriver along slot.

If the screw will not budge, take a small pair of polygrips/multigrips and grip the screw while turning anticlockwise.

If this fails, you may have to cut the screw.Get a hacksaw blade and run back and forth under pan base.

Now run a long stanley knife blade under toilet pan.

Now ease out flush pipe from pan.

If the toilet is really old and the flush pipe is held into the back of the pan, with a bracket, you will need to....

Take your junior hacksaw or hacksaw blade and cut the bracket free. (usually these brackets are corroded and undoing them is impossible)

Time to take the pan out.

At this point, apply pressure to the pan. Sit down and use your legs to push against pan. Make sure you have safety boots on.

If pan has any cracks, it may shatter as you try to pull it out. (Better and safer to break out with hammer and safety glases if this is the case)

The pan should lift up reasonable easily if you have cut the old sealing compound well.

Congratulations your half way there.
