Unblock that in sink erator garbage disposal unit

Don't you hate that moment when you pull your in sink erator garbage disposal plug and nothing happens.

You're left staring at a floating cess pool and no matter hard you plunge, cry or yell the blockage refuses to budge.

Motor on insinkerator does not go when switched on.

Your motor is going but water is not moving.

Solution

Disconnect power (pull out plug from power point to be safe.)

Put on glove and put your hand down waste hole and feel for anything that feel solid enough to block unit.

If your hand is too big, get your wife or child to feel around (They'll probably have you up for slave labour but this is an emergency so what the heck.)

All clear?

Scoop out all the water in sink with bowl and bucket.

It's time to undo the trap. (The S or P bend that attaches to insinkerator)

Place shallow dish under trap and undo top and middle nuts.

74% of all blockages are in the trap so all thing being equal, you've found a big wad of fat, coffee grounds or food pulp.

Pull this stuff out and reassemble trap. (Becareful that the trap sealing rubber rings stay in place.) If the rubber rings look squashed out of shape, either replace the trap itself (recommended) or replace the sealing rings.

Plug in waste disposer and test.

If the blockage is still not free, it's time to bring out the big gun.

Insinkerator is still blocked and I need the big gun!!!

5 things not to put down your waste disposer.

Waste disposal features and do you really need them??
