How to replace a toilet.
Welome to plumbing-troubleshooters ( replace a toilet ) page.
Today you'll learn how to take out that old toilet and how to replace with sparkling new toilet suite.
First let's get rid of the old toilet.
1. Take off toilet tank lid.
2. Turn off water to toilet tank (there should be a tap to the side of the toilet.
3. Flush toilet and test water is off.
If the toilet keeps running you will need to turn off your main supply
Now mop out remaining water in toilet tank with sponge.
4. Unscrew toilet tank from wall and disconnect water feed pipe. You will now be able to pull tank away from toilet bowl.
5. Cut seal from under toilet bowl and remove screws.
Before you take out pan, mop remaining water out of bowl (this is where gloves are essential)
The pan should now pull free quite easily.
With the area now free, you should dry and clean the position where the new toilet suite will sit. (To replace toilet this step is critical for getting a good seal on the new toilet)
If you are installing a one piece toilet it's time to assemble.
1. Unpack toilet bowl, tank and seat. Lay out pieces
Place the foam rubber ring on toilet pan hole and lower tank onto bowl. Make sure the bolts that protrude through the toilet tank have a washer on the inside of toilet tank. These bolts will line up with the holes in the toilet pan.
Tighten the bolts evenly (Do not over tighten as you risk cracking the pan)
Place lid on top of toilet tank and insert flushing straws through flush button holes. Mark the straw just below the level of the flush button holder. Pull out straws and cut to this length. Replace straws and insert flush buttons.
Well done! Now it's time to replace a toilet.
The one disadvantage of one piece toilets have over conventional toilets is their drain outlet has little room for varying measurement.
Enter the offset pan connector. This fantastic drain adapter comes in varying size offsets (from straight to 40mm 1 1/2" offset) and can be used to line up with your toilet outlet and drain.
They use no sealing wax or solvents and suit plastic, old eartherware, concrete or cast iron drains.
You need to measure the distance between the rear wall of toilet to the middle of drain. This measurement must be the same as your particular toilet gives as its drain outlet measurement. Simply use the offset pan connector to give you this exact measurement.
Place toilet into position and mark around base of toilet with pencil. Take toilet out and put a bead of anti mould silicone on the inside of pencil marking. Replace a toilet into position and wipe off excess silicone by.
1. Spray soapy water onto silicone and iceblock stick.
2. Wipe around edge of toilet with iceblock stick. (Have a rag handy to keep iceblock stick clean)
This will give you a nice clean finish.
When you replace a toilet, I reccommend not screwing the toilet pan as the silicone will not let go and you get away from the risk of cracking the toilet by overtightening screws.
Now to hook up the water
If you have a shut off valve already in place, you simply need to buy a flexi connector slightly longer than the distance between your shutoff valve and inlet valve.
Always do up the toilet connection first followed by shut off valve. This will make doing up the joints easier as the toilet connection is often harder to access.
Replace a toilet shut off valve

Yehaaa, we're almost there.
Turn the water on and check for leaks.
Congratulations you're ready to put this baby to the test.
Eat one can of beans, wait four hours, grab a newspaper and tell the family the toilet is out of bounds for an hour:)
